Since 1987, recycling has grown from a new household phrase and activity to an everyday way of life.
For residents that are not familiar with the Three R's, they are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We use this
principle when we bring clothes to the recycling center, or when we bring our plastic bags back to the
supermarket. To further the recycling effort and to help complete the recycling loop it is also important
to purchase those products, which contain recycled materials. This helps to insure that there is a market
for the items that we are recycling. Finally it is important to become aware of the packaging of the products
we purchase. Many items are over packaged and wasteful in terms of material content. Please make a conscientious
effort to avoid purchasing those products.
During the spring and summer the Office of Recycling would like to encourage residents to
try the "CUT IT AND LEAVE IT" approach to grass cutting. If you are planning on purchasing a new mower,
buy one with mulching capabilities. It is good for your lawn and it saves time as well. Residents who are
not planning on purchasing a mower should try to investigate the mulching capabilities of their mower.
Mulching blades are available for most available on mulching.
As we enter the new Millennium the Mayor and Council ask each resident to review and renew their
efforts regarding Recycling. Montvale enjoys a good participation rate regarding residential compliance
with the Recycling Program. However, over time it is easy to become complacent, recycling is one way residents
can help conserve tax dollars and help the environment. For the Millennium please Re-Commit to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

The Montvale Recycling Center is a multi-functional facility, which affords the Borough many options.
In addition to being a staging area for some of the Borough's recyclables, the center has containers for yard
waste, newspapers, magazines, corrugated cardboard, scrap metal, electronics and commingled recyclables. This facility may be used by any
resident who may have missed a recycling pickup. There is also a drop-off center for used motor oil, a facility
to dispose of high-grade computer and white office paper, an area for used automotive batteries, receptacles for
used household batteries, and used clothing. Wood chips are available, as supplies last, free for the taking.
The Montvale Recycling Center is open Wednesday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

| A Recycling Message Regarding the Recycling Center |
To all Montvale residents using the Recycling Center. As you know there are two containers
for recyclables, one container is for cans and bottles, etc. The other is for newspaper, magazines,
junk mail and corrugated cardboard. The Borough does not require the materials placed in the paper
container be tied in bundles, however, cardboard boxes should be crushed or broken up before they are
placed in the container. Please break up all boxes before you bring the material to the recycling center.
This will cut down on the frequency of pick-ups at the Recycling Center and will save tax dollars.

Pickup Schedule:
Find the pickup schedule for your street by street name or by zone on the Boro Calendar.
Grass Clippings:
Collected on Thursday. Place clippings in re-usable container.
Household Batteries:
Household batteries will no longer be collected by the boro.

For our Corporate residents who generate a SMALL amount of recyclables such as aluminum cans,
computer paper and white office paper, you may contact Robert Culvert regarding the use of the Recycling Center.
Arrangements for Corporate use of the recycling center MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO USE OF THE CENTER. For details,

Landscapers, Building Contractors and Roofing Contractors: Depending upon the size of your business or the scope of your work, you may be able to reduce some of
