Home Fire Safety
With spring right around the corner, please be diligent about reducing clutter in the home. Don't store any materials around furnaces or hot water heaters and keep access ways open to all electrical panels. It is extremely important that fire hydrants remain accessible throughout the year. We thank you for your assistance in removing snow in the winter, and please maintain the landscaping near the hydrants in your neighborhood throughout the rest of the year.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
If you have not checked the batteries in your detectors during Fire Prevention Week, now is a good time to do so. Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors do save lives, but like everything else, they need to be maintained. If an emergency does arise, you will be glad you did.
BBQ Time
If you have not done so yet, please be certain to check your BBQ grills before the cooking season starts. Check to see that all connections do not leak, (use soapy water sprayed on connections to check for leaks) and check hoses to make sure there are no cracks or worn spots and replace if necessary. Never store propane cylinders indoors. Check with your local distributor to be sure that the cylinders are not out of date. Use caution in storing gasoline. Always use the approved containers for storing gasoline. Never store any flammables near any source of ignition, such as pilot lights and gas hot water heaters or any heating devices.
